A Rock Opera in 7 Colors
Synopsis
“Jeruslem
A Symphonic Saga”, is a seven
act, eclectic rock opera with musical
influences from the realms of ... rock, classical, folk,
jazz, Mid-Eastern,
and
Indian music.
It’s a spiritual allegory... inspired by the mystical love
poetry of Kabir, Rumi, and Hafiz,in
which the heroine character, “Jerusalem”...
is symbolic of the earthly city ... “Jerusalem” ... with
it’s
spiraling history of mortal and divine struggles, while
simultaneously... it
portrays the visionary idea of , “the New Jerusalem”...
in which "Jerusalem", radiates the soul’s
inner, consciously awakened...heavenly
transformation back
into...the Eternal Oneness ... of the "I AM" reality.
The
metaphor is ...
"Jerusalem",
is presented as a woman having three suitors .... representing
the religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. They
all lay claims to her exclusive love and attentions ... as
she endeavors to bring them to the understanding that...
the
Creator has brought her
forth... for the love... and upliftment of all...and none
can lay sole claim... to her embraces.
The
work, originally written for the stage, was created over a period
of 20
years.... eventually growing ( through more complex characterizations
and multilayered resonances of meaning)... into a work to be
of 7 Parts/Acts, in it's completed version. (A
two and a half hour version distilled for the stage, will hopefully
arise one day, from the larger work.)
The
first 4 Parts/Acts... tell the narrative story of the earthly journey
of Jerusalem and it's leading characters...
It portrays
some of the myriad....... historical... psychological...cutural...
gender related... and religious... paradigms of the characters...
and
the process they must go through, in percieving and transcending,
the self-limiting
identifications...
of the outer "husks" of the Path... that
they may tread... the
inner fragrances...in the
betrothal of the illumined radiances... that
will carry them
back ...to the
thresholds
of the Divine.......
The final three Parts/Acts... seek to evoke
the spiritual ascension, through the heavenly
realms and kingdoms... where the characters must
shed the remaining outer husks and masquerades of
the mortal world...as
they still... must struggle to transcend the
archtypical adornments and allurements
of Spirit... that
they may stand...
Naked
and Whole... beatified
and triumphant before
the...
Creator’s
Holy Feet and Throne...
before
wedlocking... into
the Oneness....
of
the
Eternal... Divine.......
